The legendary Chicago house producer has put together a special mix for us.
We are extremely honoured to welcome the Chicago house legend – Larry Heard (also known as Mr. Fingers) who has recorded an exclusive special mix for all Dimensions fans out there.
Larry Heard is a musician widely known for the Chicago house music he produced in the mid-1980s and continues to produce today. He was a member of the influential group Fingers, Inc. and has recorded solo under various names, most notably Mr. Fingers.
His smooth production style with soulful vocals and long instrumental passages that de-emphasized percussion spearheaded the subgenre known as deep house. One of his first releases was a collaboration with singer Robert Owens, released under the group name “Fingers Inc.” The song “Mystery of Love” instantly became a classic hit, rising to number 10 on the Billboard Dance charts.

Along with the exclusive mix, Runner was kind enough to share his thoughts on the city he lives in and offered us a virtual tour around Athens.
Name/DJ Name: Andreas/Runner
Club night or Brand: Subbed Out, Rotation
City: Athens
Imagine we were your guests for 24 hours in Athens – list below the places we visited, a tour guide from your perspective!
Well first of all we’re pretty friendly people here; let’s step aside from the stereotypes of the financial crisis for a minute, the austerity measures, the grief, the hassle, the far right ‘flu’ and other negative notions of Athens. It’s n-o-t exactly like that most of the time.. If you know people from around here – like in most places – you’re bound to have super fun in a part of the world that happens to be summery all year round bar 6 months-ish and all it takes to find yourself on an island or on a beach is virtually.. no time really, Greece is in a part of the Med that’s like a pond, pretty nice too.
Wake up: Where did we stay last night?
If it was one night only we’d probably have you over at our own or our friends’ apartments or houses in many cool areas in the city centre like Lycabettus Hill, Plaka, around the Acropolis and others but also in the suburbs, north, south, east & west. We’re known for our hospitality here and Athens is a city surrounded by mountains and at the same time fully embracing a coast line under the sun where you can actually either beach it, swim it or just treck it onwards & upwards; or on the other hand immerse yourself in the city centre with the myriad of bars, restaurants and some really cool spots to hang around or party. Maybe a bit too ‘crowded’ architecture wise for 6.5 million people but very interesting place to visit if you’re up for something totally different from the rest of South Europe but at the same time quite keen if you know what I mean.
If I had to pick anything like a hotel or B&B there’s plenty of options but I’d personally go for a night for two at the New Hotel very close to the parliament/constitution square area and right opposite the ‘national garden’. For B&B there’s small ventures scattered in the city but there’s plenty of hotels anyway to choose from, your Hiltons, Intercontinentals, etc. Also all hotels of the Yes!Hotels group and especially the one in the city centre in Kolonaki called Periscopio. Finally the Coco-Mat affiliated Nafsika Hotel in the northern suburb of Kifisia.
Breakfast: Where did we eat? What did we eat?
Unfortunately very few ‘real’ breakfast places like abroad apart from all hotels in the city and some random cafes that happen to serve breakfast type food.
Morning: Shopping at your favorite fashion shops. Where did we go?
Lunch: Where did we eat? What did we eat?
Afternoon: Record shopping – Where did we go?
Coolest spot for me to be around records as well as buying them is Kasseta Records and their nice owner, true record hunter, a nice little jewel of a shop with a variety of mainly dance music but also jazz, soul, funk & disco. Very nice spot to hang around too and meet record aficionados like Alex Hobson, nice chap, and great DJ. Lots of records shops have shut down in the past few years (360 being one of them, pity it went) but there are still 3-4 classic spots like Zacharias in the flea market area for a huge collection of second hand records. Also a couple from Crete & Athens have opened the tiny little crib called Habeat Records vinylstore. Also running as a bar with regular locals rotating all week long.
Evening: Drinks at Your favorite Bar?
Heteroclito: we love wine here and this is a wine bar of great lengths, recently opened, killer spot behind the Metropolis church at a pedestrian corner.
Too many bars to choose from Athens. A sample below:
Gin joint: Bootleggers era style, try the grapefruit gimplet!
42 : proper bar to visit. that is all really!
Osterman: retro, spacious, very nice drinks, service and location. Just go
Balux: sea front bar, pretty posh at times. very cool location, open as a cafe and food place during the day;
A for Athens: One of the best roof garden views of the Acropolis in the city
Spiti: on one of the northern suburbs of Chalandri with the founder of infamous Synch Festival. Pretty cool spot indoors/outdoors and t-h-a-t Ginger Smash cocktail. Actually I can’t wait to take my girl there soon.
Night: We went out to a club – Where did we go?
Many clubs in the city, mostly bars operating as clubs and loads of mainstream fodder but when it comes to some proper club & live gig vibes, one name springs to mind, Six D.O.G.S with its chirpy owners, an award winning sound setup where local producer, sound engineer, all round sound man Ekelon and his soldiers make sure the crowd gets the best and most spacious output in that 350+ capacity gig space which in turn is part of a multi-purpose place with bars, garden bar/cafe/food area, a gallery and generally a small side street run by that crew. Also significant spots of the Athenian nightlife in terms of proper venues with a variety of offers on sight are Bios and its newly born sister-brother-next-of-kin Romantso which holds a great potential for many cool things to happen sometime in the future. An old press plant turned into multi-space with a killer basement for the club space. Let’s just wait and see what they have to offer.
Something we did that will not be in a tour guide (local secret):

Dimensions Festival is thrilled to announce a spectacular evening of musical entertainment in a pre-festival concert.
Appearing Live….
A Very Special Guest
to be announced mid-July
Plus…
Mount Kimbie
Portico Quartet
Andrew Ashong (live)
Dimensions Festival is thrilled to announce a spectacular evening of musical entertainment in a pre-festival concert confirmed to take place in the incredible location of a 2000-year-old Roman Amphitheatre in the historic city of Pula, Croatia. Showcasing sounds across the deeper end of the electronic spectrum and taking place in one of the six largest Roman amphitheatres in the world, the remarkable venue will host a selection of artists that seamlessly fit within the ancient walls of this utterly unique and beautiful setting.
Confirmed to perform live is Warp’s finest electronic duo Mount Kimbie. Having received across the board critical acclaim for their recent LP ‘Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’, Mount Kimbie have become a force to be reckoned with and an incredible live prospect.
Also confirmed to perform live is London four piece Portico Quartet, who have grown from strength to strength after their debut album ‘Knee-deep in the North Sea’ was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2008.Creating unique flavours of sound through the use of the Hang Drum, Portico Quartet have become an admired live act pushing boundaries with their live show.
Ghanaian- British Andrew Ashong will also be performing an innovative live set. After releasing the incredible ‘Flowers’ last year, a collaboration with the imitable Theo Parrish and winner of ‘Track Of The Year’ at The Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards, Andrew Ashong has confirmed his status as a one to watch for 2013. Bringing his live show to Pula, Ashong is sure to deliver an interesting and memorable performance.
Still to be announced is the evening’s special guest headliner, who for contractual reasons can’t be announced just yet. However what we can say is that this superbly talented electronica artist will be bringing their smoothly textured soundscapes masterfully translated into a multiple piece live show, in what will be an entirely memorable performance and a perfect fit for a venue of this magnitude.
We have decided to keep the ticket price as low as possible in order to encourage as many festival goers and Pula locals to enjoy an amazing concert at such a historical venue; with standard tickets priced at just £15/€16. There are also a limited number of VIP tickets available for the seated area of the Arena for only £3/€4 more per ticket. This area provides the best views across the Ampitheatre, as well as a drink delivery service – so no need to stand at the bar. All VIP ticket holders also have access to the standing area.
Information on transport between the festival campsite and the arena will be coming soon.

The Croatian techno legend Petar Dundov has recorded an exclusive mix for our Dimensions Festival 2013 mix series.
The Croatian techno legend Petar Dundov has recorded an exclusive mix for our Dimensions Festival 2013 mix series. Comprised of some typical for Dundov ‘hypnotic techno’ sounds and available for a limited time only, enjoy it while it lasts!
Earlier this month, Petar sat down with our team and was kind enough to answer few questions ahead of his appearance on Dimensions 2013.
Hello, Petar. What have you been up to lately? Any memorable gigs that you would like to tell us about?
During the winter I practically locked myself in the studio, spending many hours working on my new album. I also did quite a few remixes, all scheduled for release throughout the year. I have been playing around clubs like Berghain, Studio 80, Kozmo, Goa, did a small tour around Italy and Switzerland. One recent memorable gig was at Hyperspace Festival in Budapest, it was a fantastic night.
You are one of the most influential artists on the Croatian electronic music scene. Can you tell us what is its current state?
We had quite a ride during the years, there were big festivals, then it moved to big clubs and now we are in a phase where there are many small clubs offering diverse electronic sounds. We had ups and downs in a past, but now the scene has a steady growth, slowly but surely with a lot more experience and quality in regard to party organization and DJ performances. With some help from abroad big festivals are back and now you can say that everything functions well as all around Europe.
You have been living in Zagreb all your life but your travel schedule seems really hectic. Do you think that globalization has made the location where a DJ is based irrelevant?
I think this is true. As long as you have an airport with good connections nearby you are fine. Also it is important to have a good local scene where you can shape your skills. Now you can get music over internet, club music is more popular so local clubs are hosting DJs more then ever. There are still benefits of living in a big city like London or Berlin, no question about that, but they are also crowded with DJs so staying with local scene where you can build things from scratch can also be rewarding in the end.
What do you miss most when away from home?
When I am away on long trips I mostly miss my family.
You will be playing at Dimensions Festival in Pula, Croatia this September. How do you feel about that? Do you think events like these contribute to the local scene?
I am happy to be part of Dimensions Festival, it is such a positive vibe there and the location looks surreal. It is a world inside a world and surely it creates quite an impact to local scene. Many people from here doesn’t have an opportunity to travel abroad to see big festivals so this is good place to get in to underground music culture and experience it in full.
Are there any upcoming Croatian artists that the fans should watch out for?
Ilija Rudman, Homeboy, Zero, Pytzek, Sergej Snooze, are just a couple of names to watch out for. Our scene functions for some 20 years now but I think that Croatia is just starting to appear on a world map as we are finally entering the European Union.
What shall a first-time visitor to Croatia look for? Can you share some insider tips with us such as traditional food or drink?
When you are here definitely try Adriatic Squid. It is soft and tasty, much bigger than other Mediterranean cousins. Also there is plenty of good tuna. Local wines are great, black or white you can’t really miss. Also try to get a taste of goat cheese from Island Pag.
Last but not least, what can your fans expect from you in near future?
My new album “Sailing off the grid” is coming out in September on Music Man Records. I will be touring Europe and the world regarding that so hope to see you all somewhere soon.
Thank you very much for your time, Petar. We look forward to your set at Dimensions 2013!
