Reflec
Sean Dodd goes under the moniker of Reflec, previously known as Shadowfax. He was raised in Manchester, growing up in the years of the Haciender, when 90′s Manchester was at the fore front of the UK music scene. His parents were both musically inclined which nurtured his taste, into more eclectic sounds. As a teenager, he moved down to Bath, where he developed a passion from Grime and DnB. Bristol being the ideal place to see the dj’s that inspired his early tastes. After 4 years in the south west where he honed his skills as a dj, he moved back up to the rainy city of Manchester in 2006, where his love of grime merged into an obsession for dubstep. He’d attend bass heavy nights such as Hit n Run & Bass Camp, where his passion only grew stronger. After a few years of playing around with bpm’s he met Liam Blackburn, otherwise known as Indigo, there friendship grew at a rapid rate and soon moved in together. This stage in Reflecs musical education was probably the turning point, he, under the guidance of Indigo, Synkro & Biome, developed a deep understanding of producing, and the intricate detail it entails. Another vast influence in his life was his cousin, a former Bugged Out resident, who led him into the world of house and techno. A life changing moment. After a few years of making deep enthralling dubstep and bass heavy 2-step, he wandered into the musical fields of 4×4′s. His major influences, Manchester, and everything Manchester brought to the table. The way the cities scene shifted and evolved was a key factor as to where Reflec would take his sound. Manchester icons, such as Dom Hz, Synkro, Biome, Chunky & Indigo were massive influences on his sound. . . . In 2010 he became a resident for Manchester (and now Leeds and Bath) based club night Selective Hearing, where he was pinned up against some of the leading techno, house & bass producers in the world, names such as Scuba, Redshape, Blawan & Boddika. The energy created by the night inspired him to take his productions one step further, into different territories. With a debut release on the newly formed Selective Hearing label, (with a re-work of his debut by one of the scenes most exciting entities) due for release in late August, early September, and with the backing of some the UK’s most enterprising musicians, such as Synkro, Biome, Indigo, Chunky and Troy Gunner to name a few… the stakes are being raised, and the levels heightened. 2012 is going to be a massive year for the young Mancunion/Bathonian. Regarded as one of Manchester finest selectors his productions aren’t far behind. His style is a mixture of the best of Berlin and the finest of Manchester amalgamated into a unique and exciting sound, that carries the finest elements of the 120 & 130 bpm’s.
